Luton Town loanee Charlie Smith scored on his debut as St Albans City climbed up to eighth in the Vanarama Conference South table after a shock 1-0 win over Basingstoke.
Joint managers James Gray and Graham Golds bought in Smith to try to halt a recent run of poor form that had seen the Saints win once in five league games.
And the 19-year-old lived up to the billing with an excellent display at The Camrose, which he capped with a smart right-foot finish in the 19th minute.
City will look to build on the victory when Farnborough visit Clarence Park tonight, 7.45pm kick-off. St Albans won the reverse match 1-0 but Farnborough have made significant changes since then, most notable the addition of former Staines striker Louie Theophanous.
