St Albans City were beaten 2-1 by Chelmsford City at Melbourne Park in the Vanarama Conference South.
Joe Ward scored in injury time in the first-half and Darren Locke scored an own goal after the break to put the Clarets two ahead. The Saints defender redeemed himself with a 66th minute goal to haul his side back into the game. Despite pressing for the winner, and coming mightily close, the equaliser remained elusive for St Albans.
The result means the Saints slip to 14th in the table with 37 points. But, with the middle of the table being incredibly congested - 11 points separates fifth and 15th - they can climb back up with a win at Havant and Waterlooville on Tuesday.
