St Albans City have added depth at full-back by signing former Northampton Town defender Connor Roberts.

The 18-year-old came through the Sixfields academy system but could not break into the first-team. Earlier this season he spent time on loan at Biggleswade Town and recently featured for the Saints in the Herts Senior Cup win over Hadley.

The signing offers City cover at right-back behind Howard Hall while John Kyriacou recovers from a suspected medial collateral ligament injury, and gives the club a prospect for the future.

After the win over Hadley, joint manager James Gray said: “Connor has shown up well. He looks a little lightweight, maybe too light to start in the Conference Sout but at 18, if we can get his signature then he’s another one for the future.

“He’s got a lot to learn but I was impressed with him.”
