RYAN Fahy scored a stunning goal as Colney Heath Under 18s progressed in the FA Youth Cup at home to Chelmsford City on Thursday.
The Magpies were anticipating a tough fixture but started well and striker Piers Lawford put them ahead when he smashed the ball high into the net after a good move.
Left back Fahy fired the spectacular second when he arrowed the ball over the City goalkeeper from 40 yards out, wide on the left touchline. Manager Nick Sanders said: "I think the second goal was a bit of a freak one really, a 40-yarder. It was probably meant as a cross but it just dips over the goalkeeper and we were more than happy."
Colney Heath added a third just before half time when Jack Roberts tucked the ball home from close range after good play from Lawford.
In the second half Chelmsford responded well and pulled a goal back on the hour mark. Colney Heath goalkeeper Billy Barnes then saved a penalty and centre backs Kieran Finley and Dan Broom were in imperious form to deny the visitors any further goals.
Sanders hailed the spirit of his squad as they recorded their second win in the competition having beaten Grays Athletic in the previous round. He said: "They're all good mates and the atmosphere in the side is top drawer and they work hard for each other. The result, against a very good Chelmsford side, is outstanding."
Colney Heath will hope for a good crowd to cheer on their young stars at the Recreation Ground when they host Boreham Wood in the next round on Wednesday, October 8 with a 7.45pm kick off.
