AN extra time goal sent Sandridge Rovers crashing out of the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy on Saturday.

A hard-fought contest looked to be heading for penalties until hosts Hertford Heath found the target to finally separate the teams.

Sandridge Rovers boss Bob Fowler felt his side had looked the more threatening in the opening half of normal time. He said: "We hit the underside of the bar through Robbie Heywood and the ball bounced down and not over the line. They also hit the woodwork and the game was always going to hinge on one goal. In the first half, we had most of our chances but 0-0 after 90 minutes was probably about right."

Some decisions in the game left the Sandridge coaching staff less than impressed. Fowler said: "I don't normally moan about this but the three officials were the worst I have ever seen in my life. Marc Andrews is a player our young players can look up to and he had to make his feelings known to the officials at the end of the game. That is very out of character for Marc, they were that bad. I had to take Nicky Darke off after he had been totally cleaned out and we didn't even get a free kick. The goal in extra time came back from a free kick that was not a free kick but that is life. Both sides at the end agreed how bad the officials were and in a way it has cost us."

l Striker Chris Wickens has rejoined Sandridge Rovers from London Colney. Wickens signed off with a goal for the Blueboys on Saturday and Fowler said: "I am happy to welcome him back. It is nice to have him back. He left the club on good terms and did everything the right way."

Rovers go away to struggling outfit Knebworth on Saturday in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division.
