St Peter's 1 Croxley Guild 2
Playing only their second game in six weeks, St Peter's suffered yet another defeat, going down 2-1 to Croxley Guild at Lemsford on Saturday.
Not for the first time this season, the Saints struggled to field a side, missing a whole host of players including goalkeeper Chris Collings who was missing through illness.
A dull first half produced little entertainment and very few scoring attempts from either side with the score at half time remaining blank.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the second half as the Saints failed to get a grip of a quick break by the visitors. 'Keeper Johnny Shearer did his best to keep out the initial shot but he was helpless to stop the follow up effort.
Both sides were looking a little short of match fitness as the second period progressed, resulting in sloppy play all round and far too many simple errors.
The Saints gifted their visitors a second goal and with it the points, when they failed to deal with a straightforward defensive decision.
All the Saints had to offer were a few long range-efforts, none of which troubled the visiting goalkeeper.
Had it not been for a couple of good saves from Shearer, the Saints could have been looking at an even bigger defeat.
With only three minutes remaining the Saints managed a consolation goal, when, following a determined run and shot from skipper David Stevens that the visitors initially kept out, debutant Rory Bedeau bundled the ball over the line.
Once again the Saints were ruing the loss of several key players, a situation that has hampered team selection for over two months now and one that's unlikely to improve over night.
The Saints welcome Harpenden Rovers to Lemsford next Saturday, with kick off at 2pm.
