St Albans Wanderers 4

Shephall 6

AS is obvious from the score line, this was a game of end to end football with sloppy defending by both sides.

Wanderers went in front after 20 minutes when Steve Owen played a diagonal ball into the penalty area for Darren Sheffield to fire home.

However, Shephall replied immediately when Sam Harwood headed home a corner.

Wanderers continue to press and Steve Brand found the bottom corner with a shot on the turn, but the hosts left too much space in the middle and Chris Chalat was able to run through and hit a volley to level matters.

Harwood then put Shephall ahead and after the break Chalat added a fourth. Shaun Gibson reduced the arrears but the visitors’ Ross Walker walked in their fifth.

The goal of the game came when Shephall’s Vince Kernaghan collected a clearance from Upwood and fired into an empty goal from just inside the Wanderers half.

Wanderers continued to press forward and Sargeant fired home after an individual run to end the scoring.
