HARPENDEN Town boss Ryan Thompson believes his side are starting to believe in themselves after they kept their good form going with a 2-2 draw at high-flying AFC Dunstable.

Two goals from Jimmy Warner, the first a low hard shot, the second a rocket from the edge of the box, earned Town a point and boss Thompson was pleased to see his side match one of the division’s top sides.

“We did really well and I’m pleased with the lads,” he told the Herts Advertiser.

“We had to be more defensive minded and it worked.

“They’re starting to believe in themselves and we just need to cut out the sloppy goals.”

Thompson was unhappy with the manner of the home side’s first goal when Danny Ryan was left unmarked to head home at the far post.

“The second goal can happen but the first can’t it was really sloppy defending.

“They dominated the first half but I felt we dominated the second. We did to them in the second half what they did to us in the first half.”

Thompson also had praise for makeshift left-back Ben Dawes after he turned in another eye-catching display.

“Ben Dawes has come in and he’s kept the shirt,” said Thompson. “For a lad who isn’t left footed to come and play as well as he has at left back is brilliant.”
