Herts FA Senior Centenary Trophy Second Round
Met Police Bushey 1
Harpenden Town 3
HARPENDEN Town came from a goal down to beat Met Police Bushey and progress to the third round of the Herts Centenary Trophy.
Met Police started brighter on a super surface and took a deserved lead in the 35th minute.
It was a below-par performance from Town in the first half and stand-in manager John Davey replaced Will Bates with Ben Dawes. Met Police continued to play good football but goalkeeper John Gregory was in good form for Town and he kept them at bay.
Davey made another change, bringing Paddy Knock on and it proved a masterstroke as Knock headed home Chris Gregory's deep cross.
Town lost Jack Cartwright after he suffered a heavy fall and Davey replaced him with Joe Burgess.
It proved to be another great decision from Davey as Burgess gave Town the lead for the first time in the game. Quick thinking and excellent distribution from John Gregory saw the 'keeper find Burgess in space and he lobbed the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper from 20 yards.
Met Police pushed for an equaliser but it left them exposed at the back and Harpenden grabbed a third on the break. Ben Dawes challenged the 'keeper for a high ball and, as the ball came loose, Jimmy Warner was on hand to stab it home.
Town resisted strong pressure from the hosts, who had a succession of corners, to take their place in the quarter finals where they will face Hoddesdon Town.
