A combined team from St Albans has secured a date at the FA Cup Final – after winning the FA People’s Cup.

The six-strong U14 squad from Harvesters FC and Sandringham School won the trophy at a national finals day in Sheffield.

The team, Isobel Hughes, Rachel Dodd, Eve Shaw, Isabel Shaw, Georgie Ferguson and Amalie Newman-Booth, battled through a regional qualifying round in Luton earlier this year, beating the likes of Tottenham and Oxford City.

And after three group games where the girls picked up two wins and a draw, they advanced to the final where they would face Doncaster Belles.

Head of football development at Harvesters Richard Dodd said: “Anyone who knows women’s football will have heard of Doncaster Belles.

“They were clear favourites but even after conceding an early penalty the girls just went at them and ending up winning 3-1.

“They couldn’t believe it. They were super pleased to get to the finals and they just wanted to do their best.

“They were almost speechless at the end. I think their heads are still spinning.

“These things don’t come up that often. They are good girls and I’m really pleased with them.

“They have done fantastic this season and have really done themselves proud.

“They’re just an amazing side.”

They were presented with their trophy on the day by former Sunderland and Republic of Ireland star, turned BBC pundit, Kevin Kilbane.

But they will have an official presentation at half-time during May’s FA Cup Final.

And Dodd says that should be something special.

“They do get a feel for how important it is,” he said. “The thought of them being there is great. It’s something which is once in a lifetime.

“[Kilbane] said they played some great football. He was really personable and took the chance to speak to the girls.”

The final was also filmed live with interviews with the girls appearing on Sport Relief.

All the highlights of the finals will be shown on the BBC Red Button at 12.50pm on Saturday at will be available on BBC Iplayer.
