Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division

London Colney 0 Beaconsfield SYCOB 1

FOLLOWING the departure of boss Vince Rickard London Colney continued to make progress with a battling display on Saturday.

The Blueboys, now looking for their fourth managerial appointment of a tortuous campaign, may have feared the worst hosting Premier Division top three outfit Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Colney goalkeeper Stuart McHale made some fine stops early on to thwart the visitors. At the other end veteran midfielder Dave Townsend collected an incisive corner from the youthful Dominic Haynes and flashed a shot just over.

Beaconsfield scored in the 23rd minute when goalscorer supreme Mick Swaysland found the back of the net with a header from a corner kick.

Powerful forwards Cain Davey and the returning Jermaine Davey threatened to bludgeon Colney back into the contest, and the energetic Tinashe Jaravaza also caused problems.

Colney could not breach the visiting defence and although the narrow 1-0 defeat was a tribute to their work and effort, points are needed rapidly to bring them into contention for survival.

With the defence dramatically improving the Blueboys have paid the price in recent games for failing to find a goalscorer to finish off their bright approach work. The return of Jermaine Davey who showed his skills with a hot streak last season under ex-boss Lee Ward could in time help to rectify the troubles.

Lee Ward was linked with a return to the hotseat at Colney following meetings last week but the Cotlandswick club are expected to look elsewhere for a permanent appointment.
