SIMON Martin joined an exclusive group of players on Saturday when he moved into the club's top 20 appearances list.

Saturday's 4-0 win was Martin 253rd appearance in a City shirt over four separate spells at Clarence Park and the 29-year old striker says it's been a good club for him.

Speaking to the Herts Advertiser he said: "I was born in St Albans and I used watch them now and again when I was younger so it was easy for me where I was located and it was a good club so I'm happy to make that many appearances."

The former Hayes and Yeading man marked the occasion with two goals and afterwards admitted it's nice to score after a frustrating few weeks.

"We created a lot of chances today. All you can do is come on, work hard and take your chances when they come. It's very frustrating. You want to be playing and scoring; that's the best feeling and that's why I play football. You just have to keep working at it and be patient."

Martin believes that if City can build on their recent run they could surprise a few people.

"That's five clean sheets in a row, we were patient at half time, scored a good first goal and there could have been a few more. We've just got to build on this and put a good run in until the end of the season and you never know what can happen.
