DESPITE missing out on numerous scoring opportunities St Peter's had little difficulty in seeing off Codicote Reserves 4-1 in Round Two of the Herts Intermediate Cup.
The adverse weather conditions didn't appear to hinder the Saints as they started off in a determined mood, coming close to opening their account on several occasions.
Eventually they found the target with a first goal of the season from midfielder Gary Stuart-Neal.
An excellent right flank cross by defender Tony Gauthier was superbly headed home at the far post by the energetic Stuart-Neal.
A second goal soon followed as the Saints began to run the show.
The referee punished a visiting defender for foul play inside the penalty area and Richard Ellis scored from the spot for his ninth of the season in just six games.
Both Ellis and Mardle missed easy chances to increase Saints' lead with other opportunities also squandered which would have put the result beyond doubt but a 2-0 advantage helped set up the second period nicely.
Further golden scoring opportunities came and went before Danny Blyth finally increased his side's advantage.
Ellis again found a way through the visitors rearguard only to miss the target on three occasions.
Having rarely threatened the Saints defence, Codicote reduced the arrears with a scrambled effort but a break by Ellis laid on a simple tap-in for substitute James Lee to restore the Saints three goal advantage and seal a 4-1 win.
The Saints maintained their recent good flowing football and had it not been for erratic finishing a far bigger win would have been recorded.
A trip to either Leverstock Green Reserves or Wodson Park Reserves in Round Three awaits the Saints. Next Saturday Knebworth are the visitor's to Lemsford (KO 2pm).
St Peters: Barnes, T Gauthier, Wiltshire, Jones; Blyth, M Gauthier, Stuart-Neal, Laffoley (Eames), Mardle (Seidu); Lyon (Lee), Ellis.
