LONDON Colney boss Julian Robinson is hoping his side can live up to expectations and enjoy a good campaign in 2008/09.
Robinson took the management position following a dismal campaign in 2007/08 when Colney were relegated from the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. Former Colney Heath assistant manager Frank Patrick has teamed up with the new boss at Cotlandswick and the Blueboys are already in training for the campaign.
Robinson is aware the club will be expected to mount a challenge near the top of Division One and believes the players will be enthused by the task. He said: "We have had 30-35 players in training and it has been good. I have spoken to all the players at the club and they seem quite committed. We have been tipped to do well because we got relegated from the higher level and hopefully we can bounce back up. It will be a tough league though."
The Blueboys face a derby with Premier Division outfit Colney Heath and also a clash with Division One newcomers Hatfield Town in the cup competitions in the early weeks of the season. Robinson feels the games will prove attractive. He said: "Colney Heath are quite bullish at the moment and Hatfield coming into the league will be a good thing. We have drawn them in the Vase."
It has been a period of transition at Colney, with a new board in place and many changes to the team and management last term. Things now appear settled with Robinson feeling that the club is ready to return to the glory days and enjoy a good season. He said: "The new board are taking it forward and they are genuinely for the football team. We have got a couple of sponsors on board and there is no doubt things are looking good.
