TWO goals apiece from Andy Murphy and Matt Newman helped Park Street Village to a 4-0 win at AFC Hatfield in the Aubrey Cup.

In strong winds and on a bobbly pitch, Murphy opened the scoring to give PSV a 1-0 lead at the break.

Newman doubled their lead straight after the interval and Murphy grabbed his second when he rounded the 'keeper and fired home.

PSV stopper Johnny Shearer was forced into a magnificent save going from one side of the goal to the other to divert a free kick around the post before Newman completed the win with a fourth goal 10 minutes from time.

PSV boss Thompson was pleased with the result especially given the conditions.

"It was really hard in the conditions," the Village supremo told the Herts Advertiser.

"In the second half we played some really good football and given the conditions I was really pleased. It was a good one to get under our belts."

New signing Chris Cutmore made his debut for the club and Thompson was pleased to see his new signing settle in immediately.

"We brought Chris Cutmore on for his debut for Dean Seabrook and he was a threat from the off and he linked up well with Matty Newman. Cutmore's got that quality and, being left footed, he gives us balance.

"Ricky Tahon was brilliant. He's the best passer of the ball in the club and he is still only 18 or 19."

Village are without a game this weekend and Thompson is frustrated by the lack of action.

"After a good win you just want to get out there again but we've got another blank weekend and it's frustrating."

Park Street are currently fourth in the Herts Senior County Premier Division and are back in action on Saturday, October 17, when they travel to Mile End Sports in the league.
