STRIKER Matt Newman produced a sparkling display as Park Street Village took the points from the local derby clash at Sandridge Rovers on Saturday.

PSV manager Ryan Thompson was delighted with the performance from his side and hailed two-goal striker Newman. He said: "It was our best performance of the season. I am really encouraged. Matty Newman was the difference between the two sides, he was brilliant all game."

PSV went ahead when Matt Day picked the ball up and delivered a precise pass for Newman to control and slam a volley home. Sandridge responded with a goal from Chris Wilding before striker Day turned and fired in a second for Park Street.

Newman added the sensational third when he beat a number of challenges and finished well. Thompson said: "Matty picked up the ball inside his own half and evaded one tackle, he managed to stay on his feet and then he has gone past three or four players and got chopped again in the box, kept his feet and slipped it past the goalkeeper. The defenders couldn't get anywhere near him and it was a cracking goal."

Sandridge, to their credit, responded well again and a goal from Stuart Love reduced the deficit. Rovers forced the visitors back but PSV held out and Thompson was delighted to get the three points. He said: "It was a good win. We were back to where we were last year. Sandridge pulled us about a bit towards the end and played some really good football."

Park Street travel away to Standon & Puckeridge on Saturday and Sandridge Rovers host Knebworth at the Spencer Recreation Ground.
