Striker bags brace to give Blueboys maximum points
SSML Division One
London Colney 2
TWO excellent goals from Sam Mitchell gave London Colney their first three points of the season with a 2-0 win at Cockfosters on Tuesday night.
Mitchell’s brace came in a three minute spell just after the half hour mark and the home side never recovered.
Frankie Jowle continued his good early season form with another influential performance in midfield and the former Leverstock man had the first effort of the evening lobbing just over the bar.
Mark Whittamore pulled off a good save to deny Mark Golding and the Blueboys Russell Gallagher went close with a low drive.
Mitchell broke the deadlock 32 minutes in converting Gallagher’s centre. Jowle sent Gallagher away out wide and he beat his man before teeing up Mitchell to slot home.
The killer blow was landed just three minutes later as Mitchell grabbed the all important second, a goal which owed much to the quick thinking of Jowle.
The midfielder raced into the corner and won a corner off of the goalkeeper. With the Cockfosters custodian racing back to his goal Jowle lifted the kick over the stranded stopper and Mitchell was on hand to convert.
The Blueboys had a let off just before the break as Dave Pigden saw his low shot canon back off the inside of the post and Arron Ewing’s follow up was saved by Whittamore.
Despite the home side enjoying the better of the second half they were unable to breach the Blueboys’ backline.
Ewing and Golding went close for Cockfosters and Whittamore denied Liam Russell while at the other end Gallagher was denied on a couple of occasions.
Despite the best efforts of both sides there were no further goals leaving Colney to return home with another clean sheet and a hard earned three points.
