Archie McClelland's hot streak continued with two more goals as London Colney advance to the second round of the FA Vase with a 3-0 win at Godmanchester Rovers.

McClelland’s brace took him to 20 in all competitions with Dave Parkinson adding the third.

They took their time to get going on a bumpy pitch with all three goals coming in the second period.

And the win was marred by the loss of Greg Shaw after three minutes with a recurrence of a groin strain.

McClelland sent an early chance wide while the hosts forced Tom Gowans into a good save as both sides looked to figure each other out.

Spencer Clarke-Mardel went close with two chances while Rovers’ Callum Gawthrop fired a low drive just past the far post.

The teams continued to trade opportunities until the break but neither could find the breakthrough.

The Blueboys started to turn the screw in the second half and after a spectacular Jon Clements’ overhead kick was tipped wide by Richard Brandon in the Godmanchester goal, they finally got their noses in front.

Clements was the architect, slipping the ball through to McClelland who curled a shot beyond a stationary Brandon.

It was soon 2-0 thanks to a 58th minute penalty from McClelland, won after Rovers’ captain Joe Furness handled.

The hosts tried to hit back and Chae Simons saw a fine effort pushed around the post by another good save from Gowans.

But Colney killed the game off on 72 minutes.

Parkinson created space for himself out on right and his curling effort took a deflection on its way to the net.

The Blueboys fashioned a couple more chances but couldn’t stretch their advantage. It didn’t matter though and they move to the second round.

London Colney’s next fixture sees them head to Leighton Town in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division on Saturday.
