COLNEY Heath put in a good performance to win an entertaining Challenge Trophy First Round clash with at Buckingham Athletic on Tuesday.

Matt Chalkley put the Magpies ahead after just 15 seconds but Athletic hit back to equalise.

Colney Heath regained the lead when midfielder Gary Simmons blasted home a superb volley from 20 yards.

The home side snatched an equaliser with around 10 minutes to play and forced the contest into extra time.

In the additional 30 minutes, the Magpies regrouped and a fine team move led to a near post finish from Phil Jackman for 3-2. Midfield star Jamie Eames then clipped home an excellent fourth goal to settle the contest after picking up a clearance from the goalkeeper.

Joint boss Scott Lacey praised Eames who arrived at Colney Heath after a trial spell with St Albans City in the summer. He said: "Jamie is doing really well. The kid has been everywhere in the last three years with people sometimes not getting the best out of him. He is now settled at a club where he will get games under his belt and he will only get better.

"We are going in the right direction, unbeaten in five games now. When you have midfield players like Jamie Eames, Greg Deacon and Gary Simmons that shows the quality of our squad."

The Magpies go away to Haringey Borough on Saturday in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.
