After two successive defeats London Colney found the winning feeling again with a fine 3-1 success away to Berkhamsted.

Russell Gallagher scored twice with Jack Woods getting the other as Colney stayed at the top of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

The Blueboys made a bright start and a Dave Corran cross was pinched off the toes of Lee Armitt by Jim Baldry.

Tom Carter made a similarly important clearance as Stef Geraldes closed in as the visitors turned the screw.

And they were rewarded on 35 minutes with a cheeky goal.

A Charlie Smith corner caused panic in the Berkhamsted defence and as the ball dropped, Gallagher back-heeled it into the net from six yards.

Carl Tasker in the Berkhamsted goal was called on twice, either side of half-time, to deny Armitt from increasing the lead and that was given even more importance when the hosts equalised 10 minutes after the break.

A free-kick from the right was floated in for Dan Weeks to glance home.

Danny Fitzgerald had a shot saved and Greg Shaw’s effort was also kept out by Tasker while at the other end Charlie May did well to push a Frankie Jowle shot round the post as both teams looked for a winner.

But with time ticking down it was Colney who made the breakthrough.

Woods plated a great one-two to send Gallagher in for his second.

Woods hit the bar before he finally secured the win, slotting the ball in late on for 3-1.

The Blueboys will hope to start a new winning streak tomorrow (Tuesday) when they entertain Welwyn Garden City.
