Last-gasp equaliser preserves Colney Heath Ladies’ unbeaten start to the season

Colney Heath Ladies are still unbeaten this season – although they left it ridiculously late against Peterborough Northern Star to preserve that statistic.
They trailed 2-0 after just 20 minutes and even though Sheree Oliver pulled one back before the break and the Magpies peppered the Peterborough goal throughout the second-half, it looked as if they would leave without any reward.
However, with the clock having gone beyond the 90, Nicola Hollick pounced after a Rosanne Townsend-Brown shot had been blocked, firing high into the roof of the net.
The wild celebrations that followed were a distant hope after the two unforced errors gave the hosts a lead.
But the early introduction of Sophie Joseph and Christina Freestone quickly changed the Magpies’ fortunes.
From there they created chance after chance and when Oliver got on the end of a Townsend-Brown cross at the second attempt, it seemed a matter of time before they scored again.
Hollick, Oliver, Charlene Moreton and player of the match Freestone all went close in the first half and the second half was no different.
Freestone, Hollick, Moreton and substitute Charlene Grogan all went close after the break but it appeared that the clinical finish required had deserted them.
But it returned in fine style with Hollick’s big moment.
It was the least they deserved and on another day could have taken all three points.
They will hope for that outcome on Sunday with a trip to Harlow Town, again in the Eastern Region Women’s Premier Division.
