HARPENDEN Town secured safety in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division One despite going down to Bedford on Saturday.

Goals from Richard Taaffe and Adam Smith put Harpenden on course to claim the point they needed at 2-2 but Bedford responded and struck twice more to win 4-2. Harpenden were soon celebrating though, as their good recent form was rewarded when Winslow United lost, meaning the Rothamsted Park outfit are safe in Division One, four points ahead of the bottom two who go down with just one match remaining.

Harpenden go away to Stony Stratford Town on Saturday and will be looking to end the season with a flourish now the pressure is off.

l James Hardy scored for Harpenden Town Reserves but they went down 3-1 at home to London Colney in Reserve Division one.
