Fleetville Primary School created a bit of football history in St Albans as they got two teams to the Inter League Finals.

The event features all the winners of the St Albans Primary School League in a champion-of-champions style tournament.

Fleetville already had a side at the event but because there are five A team divisions this year, a space opened up for one the B team winners.

That went to Fleetville as well as their B side beat Bernard's Heath 1-0 in a play-off.

And it set the wheels in motion for the historic meeting, helped by the fact that both the A and B sides were kept apart in the group-stage draw.

The A side topped their group thanks to a 4-1 win over Camp and a 1-0 success against Skyswood.

And the B team shocked the rest of the competition as they claimed a 1-0 win over Bowmansgreen and finished it off with a 1-1 draw with Colney Heath.

It meant for the first time in St Albans primary school history the same school would have two teams in the final.

Prior to the game Charlie Lumsdon, Fleetville's sports co-ordinator, told both teams that the final was a celebration of the school and their values of teamwork, determination and self-belief.

And at the end it was both captains who lifted the trophy before soaking the coach and his assistant with bottles of fizzy water.

Lumsdon said: “The members of all of our sports teams are responsible for this success through their promotion of our school sporting values.

“I'd like to thank our staff and parents for their continued support and most importantly to the participants, for their superb attitude and ability that makes them simply a joy to coach.

“To see such a high level of participation within the school, with so many different teams and individuals achieve their goals in sport from football to hockey to fencing really is a credit to the attitude of the pupils at Fleetville and leaves me extremely proud.”

Fleetville A: Louis Kemp, Tom Bladen (c), Jayan Pisharody, Henry Still, Thomas Adams, Jed Telford, Harry Forbes, Oscar Pawley, Finn McConnell.

Fleetville B: Daniel Hart, Alex Estell, Harry Fearey (c), Sam Bance, Otto Meech, Jamie Coffer, Krish Popat, Edward Cullum, George Canaway, Thomas Banks, Xander McComb.
