London Colney booked their spot in the preliminary round of the FA Cup after easily dispatching Enfield 1893 4-0 at the Harlow Arena on Saturday.
It took the Blueboys just two minutes to open the scoring through Lee Armitt and they hammered home their advantage with two more goals before the break. Lee Close scored late on to send Enfield back to London kicking their wounds.
After a 4-1 league win over Welwyn Garden City in midweek, Colney were full of confidence, and it didn’t take long for them to score for the first goal.
Matt Standen played in Armitt whose initial shot was saved but he followed up to tap in the rebound. He nearly made it two goals in four minutes after he was hauled down in the box but he missed the penalty.
The second wasn’t long coming, though, and Tom Smith scored it, rising highest to head Rhys Lawrence’s corner into the back of the net.
Standen wrapped up a thorough dominate half by pouncing on a parried shot and heading in from six yards.
The Blueboys continued to up the pressure in the second half, with Lawrence and Armitt going close. Enfield, on the other hand, couldn’t buy a goal and squandered a penalty after Lee Close penalised for a push.
The rout was wrapped up two minutes from time when Armitt took a quick free-kick to Close. He slid the ball under the on-rushing goalkeeper to give Colney an emphatic start to this year’s cup campaign.
