Harpenden Town’s season ended in diasappointment with a 3-0 semi-final defeat to Hadley in the Herts Charity Shield.

Goals from Ivan Machado, Nick Chrysanthou and an own goal on Tuesday night saw Hadley in to next week’s final where they will play Tring Athletic.

It was a disappointment end to what has been an excellent season at Rothamsted Park.

Their Spartan South Midlands League Division One campaign ended on Saturday with a 1-1 draw with Wodson Park.

The result, however, was immaterial as fourth place, and a place in next year’s FA Cup, had already been confirmed.

Manager Danny Plumb was looking at the positives.

He said: “Look where we’ve come from when I came in. I think we were 11th, last year we were sixth and now we’re fourth.

“We got into the FA Vase this year, the FA Cup next so everything’s positive and going in the right direction.”

Jimmy Hill cancelled out a James Bishop goal on Saturday in a match which felt more like a pre-season friendly than an end of season league game.

Top scorer Harry Hunt came closest to grabbing a winner but his free-kick struck an unpright and bounced out.
