LONDON Colney were in paradise on Saturday as they celebrated their return of their star defender with a 5-1 win at home to Buckingham Athletic.

Centre back Mark Paradise has rejoined the club after a spell at Leverstock Green and reinforced the home defence although Colney were caught cold early on. Athletic took the lead when Steve Norman beat goalkeeper Alistair Hill to score.

Full back Lee Benning and Paradise had to defend smartly to ensure Colney did not fall further behind.

In the 20th minute, the Blueboys drew level after a Jermaine Davey cross was headed behind for a corner. Danny McCafferty whipped in a dangerous delivery and the ball slipped through the hands of the Buckingham goalkeeper to nestle in the net.

Colney were rampant and quickly went 2-1 up. Davey swept the ball across the goal and after a clever step over from Danslow, winger Dave Corran arrived to sweep the ball home.

Paradise hit the cross bar with a thumping header and Danslow saw his low drive saved as the Blueboys pushed for more goals.

After half time Davey went close twice and Hill made a save from Norman. The Blueboys then struck twice in three minutes for the second time in the match. Davey released Danny Fitzgerald who sped clear, rounded a defender, and then shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Jermaine Davey added the fourth when he surged clear of the defence and struck the ball low past the Buckingham goalkeeper.

Buckingham had the chance to pull a goal back from the penalty spot after McCafferty fouled Micky McAully. Dean O'Dell stepped up but was denied by a brilliant one-handed save from Hill.

Andy Hammond struck the far post as Buckingham attempted to salvage something. Instead it was Colney who struck for a fifth time when Jermaine Davey crossed to his brother Cain and defender Lee Churchward could only divert the ball into his own net on 86 minutes.

Cain Davey almost added to the party with a sixth goal but his stunning shot was pushed around the post by the goalkeeper.

London Colney: Hill, Benning, McCafferty, Paradise, Murphy (Seabrook), Humbert, Dickie, Corran (R. Gallagher), Danslow (C. Davey), J. Davey, Fitzgerald. Unused subs: Shaw, Beschizza.

In the Mid Herts League, London Colney A lost 4-3 despite leading twice. Luke Ossario, Dave Othman and Hayden Connell scored the goals.
