Super-sub Jon Clements struck twice as London Colney progressed in the FA Cup with a come-from-behind win at Leverstock Green.

It was a far-cry from the 5-1 success over the same opponents four days earlier in the Herts Charity Shield.

Clements had arrived form the bench at half-time and levelled things up on 62 minutes before hitting the winner with eight minutes left.

George Biggadike had given the hosts the lead in the first half.

London Colney will now travel to Northamptonshire on August 20 where they will play Desborough Town of the United Counties League.

Both teams had chances in the opening exchanges before Green took the lead.

The Blueboys kept giving away needlessly free kicks and from one of these Biggadike rose at the near post to head home.

And it was nearly two just before the break, Tom Gowmans making a fine one-handed stop to deny Arron Lewis.

Clements’ arrival didn’t stop the hosts pushing for that elusive second and they were unlucky when a Shane Wood header rattled the Colney crossbar.

And it would prove to be a big miss as Clements equalised just after the hour.

It came from a Jack Woods’ corner which was flicked on by Seb Smith towards Clements at the back post.

And even though the sub’s initial header was stopped on the line, he made no mistake with the rebound.

Clements was proving a real handful and had another goal-bound effort blocked on the line as both teams went all-out for a winner.

And with eight minutes to go it duly arrived for the visitors.

Chris Cutler found Clements with a quick throw-in and, after taking a couple of steps to his left, he caught everyone unawares with a cracking low strike from 25 yards.

Blueboys are in action tomorrow (Tuesday) when their Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division season gets underway at home to Berkhamsted, kick-off 7-45 pm.

That is followed by another home game against Tring Athletic on Saturday.
