City virtually ended the Hawks play off hopes with victory in March last season thanks to a Paul Hakim strike. This summer manager Shaun Gale has been busy splashing some of the cash gained from the lucrative FA Cup run which ended valiantly at Anfield and has raided 2007/08 Blue Square South winners Lewes for four of their top stars. Striker Paul Booth, defenders Ian Simpemba and Jay Conroy and midfielder Gary Holloway all started for Lewes when City won 2-0 at the Dripping Pan to upset the title pretenders and boost their own survival bid.

St Albans City will host Hayes & Yeading in the Setanta Shield Southern Section First Round. The tie is due to be played on the week commencing Monday, September 8.
