The mighty Brazil stand in the way of England's continued participation in the U17 Women's World Cup in Jordan.

After an entertaining 3-3 draw with North Korea on Saturday, the young side were held to a no-score draw by Nigeria on Tuesday.

It means England, for whom Harpenden’s Anna Patten has played every minute so far, know only a win against the South Americans on Saturday will secure passage to the quarter-finals.

The draw against North Korea saw England lead twice through Ellie Brazil and Georgia Stanway.

But they needed a stunning 94th minute strike from Alessia Russo to restore parity.

Stanway almost provided another late winner in the clash with Nigeria but her powerful effort sailed just over.

Speaking after the draw with the Africans, England coach John Griffiths said: “I’m pleased with the result, but I know the next game against Brazil will be different.

“We’ve got two days to step up our preparations and try to cut out the kind of errors we’ve made in the first two games.”

Kick-off on Saturday is at 2pm.
