LONDON Colney inflicted a second league defeat of the season on league leaders Cranfield United at Cotlandswick on Saturday.
It took the Blueboys 17 minutes to open the scoring when Jimmy Warner sprayed the ball out wide to Frankie Jowle who picked out Matt Newman and he hooked the ball over a defender and then the goalkeeper.
Cranfield battled back and ensured Mark Whittamore was kept busy but they were unable to find a way past the Colney stopper.
The Blueboys doubled their advantage in the second half when Matt Sutton drove down the left wing and hit a delightful cross for Newman to control and fire into the bottom corner of the net.
Aaron Clarke could have made it 3-0 but his lob was saved by ‘keeper George Anderson and Whittamore kept out an Alex Baker effort.
With 14 minutes remaining the Blueboys grabbed goal number three when Sutton leapt highest to head home Jowle’s free kick.
The only blemish came in injury time when Stuart Reynolds pulled one back from the penalty spot after Whittamore had been penalised.
Colney: Whittamore; Hull, McCafferty, Thompson, Paradise, Sutton, Jowle, Butler, Newman, Warner, Knightly. Subs: Stevens, Clarke, Hutchinson.
