Jack Wilshere, the Arsenal midfielder whose bones are seemingly made of glass, has suffered a hairline fracture to his ankle, ruling him out for eight weeks.

A crunching tackle during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday means that Wilshere will likely not play again until Manchester United visit North London on October 4.

Wilshere, whose career has been severely stunted by injuries, missed five months of the 2014/15 season after injuring his left ankle.

Both his ankles have required surgery since he first sustained a fracture in his right ankle during pre-season in 2011 and was ruled out for 17 months.
