Flamstead 165 beat Boxmoor 153 by 12 runs
FLAMSTEAD had to settle for second place in Division Seven even though they completed their league campaign with a narrow 12-run win.
Flamstead were inserted and got off to a steady start. However, David Watson (8), Oswin (5) and Brown (0) fell in quick succession to leave Flamstead struggling on 39-3.
Robert Gibson (14) helped Andy Taylor add 30 before he was bowled and Martin Lindley also fell on 14.
Taylor was out for a gritty 55 to leave Flamstead in a tricky situation on 109-6. Tim Wilkinson (7), Mike Bradbeer (13), Twiggy Rogers and Smith helped the scoreboard along with Rogers (23no) and Josh Rose (17) hitting 19 off the last two overs to leave Flamstead on 165 all out.
Boxmoor also made a steady start before Wilkinson got the breakthrough removing Hodgins (17). Brown ran out Pimm (15) and Wilkinson removed Crowther to leave Boxmoor struggling on 37-3.
A stand of 41 helped steady the ship for Boxmoor but Rogers broke the partnership and Rose also got in on the act removing the dangerous Kasthuriarachchi (29).
Boxmoor slumped to 85-7 as Rogers took two wickets in two balls with Marke and Wright soon following.
Feander and Greaves put up some resistance putting on 39 and taking their team to within sight of victory before Rogers struck to complete another five-wicket haul.
Skipper Taylor was understandably delighted and said afterwards: "Having lost twice in the first three games of the season we have put together a magnificent run winning 13 of the last 15 matches. It has been a fine all round performance with all our batsmen chipping in.
"Our four main bowlers have done a tremendous job with Twiggy Rogers outstanding with 61 wickets.
"It's been quite a special summer as it is the first time ever that both XIs have gained promotion in the same year.
