Flamstead 207-8 (53.0) Tewin 200-7 (47.0)

FLAMSTEAD picked up 17 well-earned points from their clash at league leaders Tewin on Saturday.

Skipper Andy Taylor won the toss for the first time since May and decided Flamstead would bat first on a good looking wicket.

Flamstead started slowly before Taylor (12) was out in the eighth over. David Bradbury

(23) and first team debutant Richard Heseltine took the score to 68 when the former was run out and they then fell to 81-3.

Heseltine and Mike Bradbeer got the innings going with an excellent stand of 78 and Flamstead were able to post 207-8 off their 53 overs. Star man Heseltine crowned his debut with a superb 72 before he was caught at deep on and Bradbeer (44) ensured Flamstead kept on the attack.

Tewin's reply got off to a quick start as Dave 'Twiggy' Rogers was hit for 28 runs off his opening four overs.

The hosts reached 79 without loss before Tom Ridley got the break through, removing the dangerous Virami (46) thanks to a fantastic diving catch by Mike Bradbeer.

With chairman Tim Wilkinson, bowling a tight spell from one end the scoring rate dropped. Ridley finished his spell with good figures of 1-28 off seven overs and Jimmy Heatley took over and carried on the good work. Heatley removed opener Taylor (27) who was caught in the gully by Heseltine while Wilkinson (2-53 off 21 overs) reduced Tewin to 114-4.

The home side recovered well and three dropped catches left them needing 15 runs to win off the last two overs. Rogers hit back in style with two wickets in the penultimate over to leave Tewin needing 12 off the final over. Matt Brown bowled a tight line and length conceding just five runs and Tewin lost their seventh wicket off the last ball of the innings, leaving them on 200-7.

Flamstead skipper Taylor was pleased with the 17 points gained against the unbeaten league leaders. He said: "I thought Richard Heseltine batted really well on his debut and with Mike Bradbeer having his first knock of the season and hitting form immediately we were able to set a decent target. I wasn't happy with the start of their innings as we were still half asleep but with Tim Wilkinson's excellent tight spell and Twiggy Rogers bowling well at the death a draw was the fairest result."

Flamstead host promotion contenders Rickmansworth on Saturday and Taylor is hoping his side show their best form.
