Flamstead 153 all out beat Kings Langley 146 all out by seven runs

Flamstead visited bottom of the table Kings Langley II on Saturday and were very relieved to come away with 30 points as they scraped a win by just seven runs.

As expected after all the rain on Thursday whoever won the toss would insert the opposition so Flamstead found themselves batting first on a softish wicket.

Dave Watson (9) was out in the fifth over caught behind but then a good steady stand developed between skipper Andy Taylor and David Osusiu for 53 before Osusiu became the first victim of Sambridge.

The Flamstead batsmen found the accuracy of Sambridge (6-52) difficult to cope with and only Taylor (54) built an innings as Flamstead struggled to 122-9.

Only some late hitting by David Rogers (15no) and Hosh Rose (16) got Flamstead to a mediocre score of 153 as they smashed 33 off the last two overs of the innings.

Kings Langley got off to a poor start losing their first wicket in the second over with the score on just four as Rogers had Burnell caught at extra cover by Rose for a duck.

Rogers then struck again on 18 before Yoycey (15) and G Henderson (22) got Kings Langley up to 44-2.

The introducition of Rose then started a collapse as he started with two maidens and Roger removed the dangerous Henderson and the number six for a duck to leave Langley struggling on 45-6.

Sambridge and Thompston (10) then started to rebuild the innings and had put on 37 useful runs before Thomson was bowled by Jack Smith.

With the help of 12-year-old Jack Walker, Sambridge took the game to Flamstead as he completed an excellent match with a 50 and they gradually got closer and closer to the target.

With only 13 needed for a very rare victory and three wickets in hand Rogers returned for his second spell and soon removed Sambridge for 54.

Three runs later Tim Wilkinson had the number 10 caught at mid on by Rose before Rogers bowled the number 11 for a duck and Flamsteaed had recorded a very tense victory.

Flamstead skipper Taylor was a very relieved man to bag the 30 points.

"I thought we had lost the match but we kept our nerve and finished well. For the second week running we've had the opposition struggling with half their team out for under 50 runs but seem unable to finish the job.

"With four games to go now we need to be more ruthless.
