Wheathampstead picked up their first win of the season, a 124 runs win over Knebworth Park in Saracens Herts Division Three.

Inserted into bat, Wheathampstead openers set to their task well with quick scoring from Alistair Sykes and Matt Corran as both hit the ball straight and through the leg side coupled with good running between the wickets.

The pair put up 97 runs before Corran was bowled for 35.

Sykes was joined by Chris Martin and after he surviving an early scare went on to hit the ball with authority. He continued to score well, particularly driving down the ground, to reach his maiden first-team half century.

He later departed for 60 after being caught at mid wicket.

Martin picked up the scoring rate, but it was ultimately his downfall when he was run out for 82 when looked certain to reach his century.

Wheathampstead finished up on 244, securing all batting points, though more importantly, applying a great deal of pressure of Knebworth.

Knebworth’s Ryan Skeggs and Shaun Robinson started off brightly, score above the required rate for the first four overs. However, Nick Martin tempted Skeggs into a loose shot and he was caught behind by Sam Ledger.

Adam Robbins then found his rhythm and produced a great display of bowling. He trapped Lee Robinson in front then rearranged Alex Richmond’s stumps, send in back to the pavilion for a duck.

Keith Martin and David Dabare accounted for most of the tail, although Shaun Robinson continued his stand when his team-mates fell all around him.

After scoring his first 50 runs slowly, he deposited Dabare into the car park twice in one over before being dismissed for 69, handed Wheathampstead the victory.
