Johnson, competing in the fiercely contested “Rookie Minitwin” class, put his SV650 on pole position at the Lincolnshire circuit on Saturday.

After a poor start in the first race, he recovered for a good tussle with the series leader. Johnson got a wheel in front and was starting to pull out a gap when he crashed out of the lead in the treacherous conditions. Amends were made on Sunday though and he brought the bike home for his first win.

Johnson is now up to fourth in the championship, with three rounds remaining at Pembrey, Brands Hatch and Snetterton.

Johnson extended his thanks to his dad Andrew and Gary Smith of SDC Performance in Stevenage for preparing his bike and for race advice.
