The apparent end of the heatwave has brought cooler weather and blessed relief for runners – although some St Albans Striders may not have agreed as they tackled the Active Training World St Albans 10K.

The race, starting and finishing in Highfield Park and featuring parts of the Alban Way, saw a number from the home-town club involved.

Steve Buckle was the first home in a time of 34 minutes 10 seconds, and was followed by Heather Hann who was third women overall in a time of 38:36.

In total 38 Striders took part and notable achievements included Anna Ward who was fourth lady and second FV40, Wendy Walsh was third WV40, Martin Halling third M60 and Colin Egleton second M70.

It was an exceptional weekend for Ian Hirth who smashed his 5k PB on the track in the Milton Keynes 5K PB Special, by over a minute in 18:29, and then won the Richmond Thames Path 50k Ultra in a time of four hours 11 minutes after leading from start to finish..
