COLNEY Heath exited the FA Cup on Saturday after a 2-1 loss at home to Harefield United.

The heat and humid conditions made it a slow start for both teams and the only real attempt on goal in the first 10 minutes was a tame Jamie Eames free-kick, which was easily picked up by the Harefield keeper.

Harefield opened the scoring after 35 minutes when Hubbard got on the end of a loose ball in the area to slide the ball into an empty net.

The closest Colney came to equalising was when Eames played a crossfield pass to Kevin Ashwood, who beat the keeper to the ball but it drifted wide.

Harefield made it 2-0 when Newman curled a left footed free-kick past Blackman from the edge of the area.

Colney got back into the game when Ashwood got on the end of a through ball similar to the one he had in the first half, this time he lobbed the keeper to make it 2-1 with 20 minutes to go.

Once again, the goal woke the Magpies up and Bradley Harrison tested the keeper with a shot from the edge of the area and Ashwood then struck the post from about 30 yards.

Colney went on the break and Ashwood crossed for Harrison who blasted over.

Colney Heath were second best for the majority of the match as Harefield came with a plan to frustrate, hassle and play on the break.

Unfortunately 3,000 was missed out on with this defeat, as Harefield progressed into the next round.
