Redbourn continued their good start to the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Division 3A season with a 33-run victory away to Old Elizabethans.

Opener Gary Sandford was the star with an exquisite 73 before the bowlers finished the job off.

Redbourn, who won the toss and elected to bat, didn’t have the best of starts with Ed Hales caught behind for a duck.

A third wicket partnership of 100 between Sandford and Dan Roe guided Redbourn to 143 before the captain was bowled by Akhtar.

Sandford’s innings was bought to an end with a run out at the non-strikers end following a piece of quick thinking by the bowler and it signalled the start of a middle-order collapse.

A late flurry of runs by the tail, and a total of 62 in extras, gave Redbourn a final total of 220.

And the bowlers made sure that despite some decent scores Elizabethans could not challenge that figure.

Jon Fleming held down one end, finishing with 1-37 with Callum Moyle picking up the wicket of number two Rob Gibson.

Josh Arnold and Adam Pritchard bowled through with Arnold picking up the wicket of Heavey, who was caught sharply at mid-wicket for 40.

Yet it was the bowling trio of Moyle, Pritchard and Roe that finished it off for Redbourn.

Roe ended with figures of 2-17 while Pritchard got 2-29.

Moyle picked up the final wicket for Redbourn in the 42nd over of the match, leaving him with 3-40.

The seconds and thirds also picked up wins against Northwood and Kings Langley respectively.

Richie Cann and and Darren Bissell both picked up three wickets each as the seconds held their visitors to the Common to just 198.

They were backed up by James Colenutt and Conor Yorath who shared the remaining wickets between them.

In reply Redbourn got off to a dubious start with the early dismissals of Richard Blair and Paul Smith.

Yet opener Yorath and captain James Bunce helped push Redbourn back on track.

Yorath batted solidly for 63 before chipping it back to the bowler Nandirajau.

Yet no further batsmen would be needed with Tom Copp and Bunce seeing Redbourn to the win, finishing on 32* and 65* respectively.

The thirds also fielded first and also had an excellent bowling display with Martin Benfield, John Simpson and Alex Muriss picking up five wickets between them.

Simpson bowled particularly well with a magnificent 3-17 off nine overs. A run out and wicket from Blair finished off Kings Langley who ended on 119.

A brilliant batting display saw only three batsmen need for Redbourn.

John Pritchard and Nigel Wellsbury put on an 81 run partnership before skipper Wellsbury was bowled by Turner.

Chairman Antony Mauder and Pritchard finished the job with 15* and 58*.

However, the 4ths couldn’t make it a clean sweep.

They batted first against Watford Town and managed 155.

Chris Renwick and Jayan Logarajah opened the bowling for Redbourn, but were unable to produce a wicket, despite Renwick’s eight overs going for just 18 runs.

Simon Emmins bowled to his best, with a five wicket haul, including two incredible catches from young keeper Ethan Bury.

Ben Renwick dismissed number one batsmen Paresh for 52 but Watford chased down the runs with five overs to spare.
