A mixture of second and third team players helped Verulamians to an entertaining 31-19 over a Welwyn XV.
Injured skipper, Sam Richmond, took the opportunity to blood some new players and the experiment seemed to work.
Joe Baker ran in a hat-trick from No8 while fly-half Simon McCulloch notched up a 100 per cent conversion rate with the boot.
Having had a free week due to the Rugby World Cup Final, the first team return to action this Saturday with a trip to Old Millhillians RFC, when they hope to continue their push towards the top of the Herts/Middlesex One League.
