St Albans Exiles made another trip to Broxbourne and continued their fine form with a convincing 4-1 win. Last week they defeated League leaders, Potters Bar, inflicting their first defeat for over 20 matches, to cement second place in the table.

With a near full strength team, the Exiles started in confident fashion, giving Broxbourne little time and space.

The Exiles had a few early chances to open the scoring, but the combination of poor finishing and outstanding saves from the Broxbourne 'keeper kept the Exiles at bay.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half when some slick passing saw Jones free in the 'D' and fired into the corner.

The lead did not last long, as Broxbourne were awarded a penalty corner.

Despite an initial save from 'keeper Jerry Fretter, he was not able to keep out the rebound. This was to be the only sight of goal that Broxbourne would see for the rest of the game.

Exiles were not as fluent as the previous week against Potters Bar with wayward passing and tackling.

This cumulated in another yellow card suspension for Phil Dorsett.

Despite playing with ten men for 10 minutes, the Exiles looked comfortable in all areas of the pitch.

Despite being under par, the Exiles always looked as if a goal would come at any time and a lung-bursting run from Richard O'Toole gave the Exiles a deserved lead. This was further increased from a number of penalty corners which the Exiles were awarded.

Halfway through the second half, Adam Ross's run along the goal line saw Martin Jones with an easy tap in, which virtually guaranteed the Exiles maximum points. There was even time for Captain, Mark Lister, to round off the scoring.

With half of the season completed, the Exiles sit comfortably in the second place in East League SW4 and an automatic promotion place. With the same commitment and intensity in the second half of the season, the Exiles will be there or thereabouts.

The Exiles travel to West Herts next week, in a grudge match following their unsporting antics on day one of the season and will look to go into the Christmas break with another win.
