NORMAN Griffiths played for St Albans City 49 times between 1949-52 and returned to the club as a special guest for The Saints FA Cup clash with Lowestoft Town.

The 90-year-old, who lives in East Grinstead, met with club historians Dave Tavener and Peter Taylor prior to the game to chat about the club and his time there more than 50 years ago.

It was fitting that Norman attended the FA game as he played for The Saints against Wealdstone in the competition on September 30, 1950.

In that match Fred Fuller scored a hat-trick, that, until Sean Shields bagged a treble at Ashford Town for the class of 2012, was the most recent occasion a City player had scored a hat-trick in an away FA Cup tie.
