ADAM Everitt was delighted after scoring his first goal for St Albans City at the weekend.

Everitt cut a frustrated figure after putting through his own net the previous weekend at Bath City but fast forward seven days and the former Bromley man was ecstatic.

"It's slightly tarnished a little bit because we didn't go on and get the victory but I'm always happy with a goal," beamed Everitt.

Jonathan Hunt supplied the ball for Everitt's goal with the defender revealing that it's something they'd talked about in the build-up to the game.

"Hunty [Jonathan Hunt] whips balls in like that all the time and we've been talking about getting across the 'keeper, and I just got a free run and the ball was perfect and I got on the end of it."

Everitt, who started Saturday's game at centre half, has gained a reputation as a versatile player after featuring in central midfield and at left back in recent City games though he thinks his chances of getting a run out up front aren't great.

"I don't mind I'll play anywhere. Centre back, left back, centre midfield, I'm a bit of a utility man at the moment. I keep telling Steve [Castle] I'll do a job up front but he never puts me there!"

The pitch on Saturday was far from ideal following heavy rain the night before and Everitt believes that this should be viewed as a decent point away from home, following City's recent form.

"It's a bad run we've been on and hopefully we can build on this performance. First half especially I thought we played well, second half they were on top but we got a draw so it's a good away point I suppose.

"It's one of the worst pitches I've ever played on. You were sinking down to your ankles in some places. Like I say it's a difficult place to come so you've got to be happy with a point the run we've been on."

Manager Steve Castle praised Everitt in his post match interview saying that his player was 'a manager's dream' and Everitt says he is more than happy to accept praise like that.

"I'm very happy. The one person you've got to impress is the manager so yeah I'm very happy with that!
