TOM SHADBOLT is one of six players not previously included in any English squad who have been selected for this year's English Under-21 squad to join those players previously named to bring the total to l2.

The squad has already undergone a training session at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa, and will be looking forward to travelling to Spain in March for warm-weather training.

Shadbolt, 19, from Mid Herts, came under selectors' scrutiny last season with some impressive performances in national events, as well as county matches. He finished runner-up in the Lagonda Trophy, was fourth in the Lee Westwood Trophy, ninth in the Berkshire Trophy and reached the last 16 in the English Amateur Championship.

Tom became one of the youngest players at 17 to win the Herts Championship in 2005, beating Porters Park's Nick Pateman, 19, on the final green at Letchworth by one hole, and when the pair won through to the final again the next year at Moor Park it was Nick's turn, winning by 4&3.
