Mark Easton notched up an incredible 32nd win at the Surrey Walking Club Seven Mile Championship.

The only finisher to break the hour mark, Easton led from the start to beat his closest competitor by nearly two minutes.

Easton, a St Albans resident, lived in Surrey during his schooldays and has remained faithful to his first athletic club – Surrey Walking Club – having joined in 1977 at 14.

His talent for race walking was soon recognised and his international potential was fulfilled by four Commonwealth Games appearances with his highest position being fifth.

He first won the Seven Mile Championship in 1982 and has gone on to hold off newer and younger competition consecutively ever since.
