SAINTS' new boy Ian Dunn admitted he was still on a high after a whirlwind week.

Dunn, recommended to City boss Steve Castle by goalkeeper Paul Bastock, only came down to Clarence Park last Wednesday for a trial but impressed enough for Castle to sign him on dual registration terms from Bourne Town. Dunn's week ended in perfect style scoring two goals on his debut as City came from behind to beat Weston-super-Mare.

"It went well. I've been floating all week to be honest," Dunn revealed to the Herts Advertiser afterwards.

"I only came for a trial on Wednesday that went well, Steve (Castle) rang me Thursday and wanted me to sign and yesterday spoke to me and told me he really wanted me to come down and look to freshen things up and then when I came down today and he said I was starting, I was shocked to be honest. Then to get two goals on top, I haven't come down to be honest."

"I loved it, I loved the level of football and there's some quality players out there. They were fantastic and long may it continue."

Dunn is an old-fashioned centre forward, keeping it simple and adding some much needed hustle and bustle to the Saints front line.

"That's what he wanted me to do, come in put myself about a bit and ruffle a few feathers and that's what I've been doing in the level I've been playing up North, it's a bit rougher up there, but I just bought it down here and did the same and it's obviously worked," said Dunn.

"I'm not a fancy footballer, I haven't got any tricks, I just keep it simple."

The Northampton-born striker has made a huge step up to Blue Square South having previously played for Bourne Town in the United Counties Premier Division at step five of the non-league pyramid - effectively jumping three divisions.

"I've played briefly in the Doc Martens and Unibond League One but to step up this far is a big step," added Dunn.

"I've questioned myself all week. All week I've been tooing and froing, is it going to work is it not? Am I going one step to far? I got the chance today and I thought I've just got to grab it and take it and just do everything I can, work hard and see what happens and it's paid off."

Dunn is hoping for a repeat performance when City take on Maidenhead United tomorrow night.

"If you're buzzing you just want to keep playing. I know absolutely nothing about them, I knew nothing about these lads (Weston) today, I just take each game as it comes.

"As far as I'm concerned I'm playing against a back four each week I don't know and I've just got to treat them all the same," he continued.

"It'll help because I don't know anything about them, I've got nothing to fear and I'll just go in and play each back four the same way each week.
