Double success for St Albans City Youth in tournaments

They took on top sides from all over the UK and day one finished with a perfect record thanks to wins over Wealdstone Youth (4-0), Alvis Juniors from Coventry (3-1), Teddington Wolves (7-0) and a narrow 1-0 win in a competitive game versus Downside Youth.

The boys entered day two of the competition in confident mood but it was to be a tougher day.

Two narrow victories, both 1-0 against Isle of Wight league champions Gurnard Storm and tournament runners up Teddington Wolves carried on their progress.

And the boys closed out the tournament with a convincing 3-0 win over Newport Youth before losing their perfect record to Middlesex County Cup finalists Bessingbury Park 1-0 in the final game.

The weekend saw stand-out performances from the whole squad with the team scoring 21 goals and conceding only two over the two days.

Aston Latter took his tally for the season to 25 goals with six more while Ollie Mullen scored five and Freddie Roe chipped in with four.

Alex Strazza, Benjy Stone and Gabriel Urhoma were all outstanding at the back and it was captain Strazza who picked up the trophy from former Leicester and Portsmouth striker Steve Claridge at the awards evening.

And the good news didn't stop there as the U12 Orient won the Northwood six-a-side tournament.

Three wins and a draw were followed by a loss to the hosts but they had still done enough to qualify for the final.

There they met a very strong Wembley team and the team were grateful to goalkeeper Harry Rumble who made a magnificent save after two minutes.

And Orient then rose to the occasion, winning the game in extra time with a strike from Ed Purple.

Alex Hails, Oscar Noble, Bertie Postema and Luca Lepley all scored whileJosh Toop and Ollie Jay completed the squad.
