Teenage judo player Amy Platten won two bronze medals in international competition over half-term.

The 16-year-old though felt she could have done even better.

St Albans’ Platten said: “I am improving, last year I was happy with bronze, but I feel I could have made both finals if I had fought to my full potential, so I am a little dissapointed.

“I have three weeks to train, and revise for my GCSEs, before travelling to Croatia to fight.

“All these competitions are learning opportunities before the two big competitions this year, the European Championships and EYOF.”

Platten first travelled to Italy for the Italian Cadet (U18) European Cup and now is fourth in the IJF World Rankings.

It was a tough day with Platten winning her first two fights against an Italian and a Hungarian, she then lost to a Russian before quickly recovering to defeat a Croation for the bronze medal.

After the training camp immediately after the competition the teen had a couple of days rest then travelled to Spain for the Cadet European Cup.

There she again won her first two fights before succombing to a Russian again.

After regaining her composure, Platten contolled the bronze medal match scoring a Wazari with an Uchi Mata to win her second bronze European Cup in a week.
