Colney Heath fell to two home defeats this week – with Saturday’s 2-1 reverse to Welwyn Garden City being particularly hard to take.

Lee Armitt had fired the Magpies into an eight-minute lead against the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division high flyers and they held that with a solid and determined performance until the final two minutes when first Ash Kersey and then Yasin Boodhoo scored for City.

Any hopes that they would bounce back quickly against fourth-placed Harpenden Town were dispelled in a 4-0 loss.

Jack Cartwright and Jack Nevin had put Harps 2-0 ahead before Heath were forced to play the final 20 minutes with just 10 men, Alfie Osborne going off injured after manager Ryan Thompson had already made three substitutions.

Kyle McLeish and Sam James finished off the scoring.

And it doesn’t get any easier this week as they go to league leaders Berkhamsted on Saturday although they are hopeful of having Dave Parkinson, Spencer Clarke-Mardel and Osamu Allman available.

London Colney didn’t have things any better either as they also suffered two defeats.

Saturday’s 2-1 loss came at Tring Athletic.

The Blueboys had taken the lead in the first half with a great finish from Laurence Vaughan and they held that to half-time.

But despite having the better of the first 45 minutes, they started to give away too many free kicks after the break and were made to pay when first Elliot Goward and then Jack Read scored.

St Margaretsbury were the visitors to Cotlandswick on Tuesday evening and again Colney had more of the play, with new signings Tobi Omotosho and Denzil Conteh going close.

Zach Holding had a shot crash into the side netting whilst Wilson Ferreira saw his low strike well saved by Adam Seymour.

But again the Blueboys became lost boys in the second half as St Margaretsbury snatched the lead with a headed goal from Dan Odamo and then went 2-0 up following a fine low-strike from their captain Lee Roberts.

Colney’s bad night was completed when Conteh was given a second yellow card and sent off.

They go to Stotfold on Saturday.
