The St Albans Bowling Club beat Harpenden by nine shots in the District Triples.
Pauline Gardiner, Maggie Kendrick and skip Doreen Gray won 22 – 13. Against the same opposition, and in the same competition, St Albans won 4-2 on points. The home team, of Pauline Gardiner, Joyce Wilson and Doreen Gray, won 34-13 and the away team, of Marjorie Knight, Carole Ewer and Diana Tribe, lost 20-16.
The midweek men played Northaw & Cuffley and lost handsomely by 123 shots to 58. St Albans fared better on the next day when they played Radlett in a mixed match, winning 51-47. The top rink was Sybil Steers, Marjorie Knight, Tom Banfield and Jim McGregor (25-17).
Three St Albans teams played their first round of the St Albans & District Bowling Association Pair’s competition. Alan Brittain and Ken Budd lost 20-12 to Townsend, Ted Salvidge and John Bartlett lost 24-18 to Hatfield and Alan Turner and Dave Church lost 30-16 to Harpenden.
In the District Officer’s Singles, Ken Budd beat Fred Mulberry of Townsend 21-14 in round one, only to lose in the second to Norman Muller of Welwyn & District BC 21-20.
